requirements at Herald Printing Co.
There are generally two file types that we receive to process. One is database’s for mailing and the other is graphic files for printing. We have several different medium for receiving these files and some flexibility of format. Below are the requirements for us to receive files. The first part is for any type of file that we receive. The second part is requirements for database/mailing files and the third part is for graphic files for printing.
We can receive files on 5 types of medium in PC format only.
1. 3 ½ inch floppy, if your file will fit
2. 100 megabyte Zip Disk (not 250 meg)
3. CD or CDRW
4. Email as attachment
5. Compact Flash (usually used in Digital Cameras)
The general rule for Database files for mailing is that if it can be loaded in Microsoft Excel we can use it. Files that can be loaded in Excel are: propriety Excel files (*.xls etc.), Dbase III & IV files (*.dbf), Mailmerge or comma delimited (*.txt, *.csv), fixed length Ascii files, (*.txt) and others that will load in Excel. Your program will probably export to one of these types of files. If you are sending a file via email for mailing please send it to the email address of jackmartin@herald-printing.com and jaymartin@herald-printing.com. This way we are sure to receive it. Most files that we receive for mailing are on 3 ½ floppy or Email.
The best way to send a file for printing is any Microsoft Office file or Adobe Acrobat file (*.pdf). Please send these files in as high a resolution as possible. We will either print the file to a high resolution printer or directly to plate for the printing press. We can also receive files in Jpeg (*.jpg) and Tagged Image files (*.tif) and other standard graphic formats, but the previous mentioned ones for sure. We cannot currently receive Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop files or Quark Express files. They can be distilled to *.pdf files. If you email these files please send them to dmccoy@herald-printing.com or marvin@herald-printing.com. Sometimes we will forward the above Illustrator and Quark files to a contractor for processing
